Location: National Academy of Sciences Building
2101 Constitution Ave NW Washington DC 20418

The Board on Life Sciences, in collaboration with the Board on Science Education, will organize a convocation to provide an overview of the scholarly literature on the efficacy of efforts to implement discovery-based research labs, showcase a variety of tested and well-assessed models of undergraduate course-based research opportunities, and examine how to overcome barriers to widespread adoption of these models. The convocation will also consider components of a research agenda to further explore the features of original research experiences and the institutional changes that would be needed to promote and support this type of pedagogical strategy. The report that is prepared following the convocation will be used for a series of outreach efforts and will also inform a related consensus study.
