Updating nutrient requirements and recommendations last made in 2000, this report is a comprehensive review of the most recent information available on beef cattle nutrition and ingredient composition for efficient, profitable, and environmentally conscious beef production. In addition to a thorough and current evaluation of the literature on the energy and nutrient requirements of beef in all stages of life, this volume includes information on beef safety and the nutritional profile of beef products; a comprehensive review of ruminant anatomy, digestion, and nutrient utilization; a wide-ranging overview of carbohydrates used in beef cattle production; information on the role of lipids, and lipid digestion and absorption; a review of factors affecting nutrient losses in manure and greenhouse gas emissions; a more complete review of compounds that modify digestion and metabolism; and a thorough review of byproduct feeds. Tables of feed ingredient composition are also significantly updated.
