The Fall 2019 Meeting of the Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (BASC) will be held on Thursday-Friday, November 21-22 in Washington, DC. The meeting's public sessions will include updates on a number of U.S. climate modeling efforts, including the NASA GISS, NCAR CESM, DOE E3SM, and NOAA GFDL models. The meeting will also include discussion of the latest climate sensitivity estimates and other emerging opportunities in the climate modeling space, and conclude with a special session to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the report Carbon Dioxide and Climate: A Scientific Assessment, otherwise known as "the Charney Report." Marcia McNutt, President of the National Academy of Sciences; Jagadish Shukla, former student of Jule Charney's; D. James Baker, member of the original authoring committee; John Perry, staff lead for the report; and Jim Hansen and Syukuro Manabe, major contributors to the work, will all participate in this session to offer their reflections.
