Transportation of Laboratory Animals: Proceedings of a Workshop (2017)Institute for Laboratory Animal Research
Transportation of laboratory animals is a challenge, both domestically and globally. The movement of research animals requires coordination, planning, and the presence of trained personnel to ensure their safe and humane transport. This workshop focused on educating the research community, policy administrators, and the general public on the challenges surrounding this topic, as well as providing interactive journey planning exercises to convey how complicated and critical transporting animals is. The workshop heard from a variety of perspectives, including commercial shippers, academic researchers, veterinarians and representatives from the various regulatory agencies responsible for monitoring shipments. Included in this workshop summary is a transportation planning checklist that can be used to assist with ensuring a safe, expeditious and healthy transit for any live laboratory animals.
