NEW PROJECT - Scientific Review of the Feasabilitiy of Mycoherbicides in Eradicating Illicit Drug Crops

The Office of National Drug Control Policy has asked the National Research Council to convene a study committee to examine scientific issues associated with the feasibility of developing and implementing mycoherbicdes based on Fusarium oxysporum and Pleospora papaveracea as a means to eradicate illicit drug crops (i.e., coca, cannabis, and the opium poppy). The committee will evaluate the potential human health, ecological, and environmental risks associated with their use, and recommend research and development needed for future implementation of the technology. The complete statement of task is provided below. We have received nominations for committee members and are now in the process of assembling the committee slate for nomination and approval.
