Observations, Modeling, & Data Systems

All Topics >> This Topic's: Publications :: Meetings :: Ongoing Studies

Observing and monitoring key characteristics of the climate system such as temperature, rainfall, snowmelt, ice cover, and ocean salinity over time are essential for documenting the evolving state of the climate system, improving the understanding of its changes, and contributing to improved capabilities to project future changes. Analysis of these data can lead to better understanding of climate processes and improved model projections of future climate variability and change. The National Research Council carries out a variety of studies, workshops, and meetings and publishes numerous reports on science-policy issues related to climate observations, modeling, and data systems.
