Workshop on the Development of Unconventional Hydrocarbon Resources in the Appalachian Basin

The workshop will cover three main themes: (1) the geology, hydrocarbon resources, and production of unconventional hydrocarbon resources in the Appalachian Basin, (2) the potential effects of unconventional hydrocarbon production on surface and groundwater quality and quantity and on air quality, and (3) the potential effects of unconventional hydrocarbon production on landscapes, ecosystems, and climate.  Each theme will be introduced by overview presentations then explored in more detail in working group sessions.  A summary of the workshop presentations and discussions will be published as an NRC report.
