ILAR's website is the starting point for learning about the use of animals in research.

The website includes access to Books & Reports describing the many types of animals used in research and guidelines for their appropriate handling and care. The site also contains Links to numerous other sources of both general and specific information on animal research.

Of particular interest to a general audience is the publication Science, Medicine, and Animals, which is informative and easy to read. This booket provides an assessment of the scientific issues associated with the use of animals in research, examines the impact of the resulting research on humans and animals, and explores the alternatives to animal experimentation. The booklet also briefly describes the laws and regulations governing the use of animals in research.

Although many of the websites identified in the Links section relate to specialized areas of animal research, a general audience may find that the sites listed under For Students and Teachers address many of their specific needs and interests. Also of interest and relevance may be those sites found under Animal Alternatives.
