THE GILBERT W. BEEBE SYMPOSIUM
In the fall of each year, The National Academies NRSB sponsors an Annual Gilbert W. Beebe Symposium named in honor of the
distinguished National Cancer Institute scientist whose many years as a statistician and epidemiologist before his death
in 2003 spanned several careers. While at the National Academy of Sciences, Gil worked with Seymour Jablon to organize the
Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission research program and cohorts which have been used to study the late health effects of
radiation exposure in Japanese A-bomb survivors. The series of Beebe Symposia is intended to focus on important issues
related to radiation risk assessment. Typically, each program includes an Honorary Chair selected for his/her contributions
to radiation science and speakers recognized for their expertise in the selected theme.
