An important National Academies project within the Division on Earth and Life Studies is assigned to the Nuclear
and Radiation Studies Board. That study was started 60 years ago as the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission (ABCC) when President
Truman directed the National Academy of Sciences to develop a study of the health effects in the A-bomb survivors
of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In 1975, ABCC became the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF). While
numerous National Academies employees have served as scientists and support staff at ABCC and RERF over the years, contact information for our current
